Credit Score Agencies: Why you should be on their good books?
Credit Score Agencies gather financial information on consumers. For example, they are notified when you apply for a loan/credit card. Also they are notified when you make a late payment, or close an account. In short, at least one of the top credit score agencies will be notified when you make a financial transaction of note. The three top credit score agencies are Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
At this point, it would be worthwhile to realize how a credit score agency’s take on you can affect your life. For example, if you’re applying for a loan; if your credit score is not good, there are more chances that the creditor may reject your application. Even if someone credit approves your application eventually, you may have to cough up higher interest rates throughout the loan term. Further, a bad credit score might limit your job opportunities, landlords might not rent you houses, your insurance rates may be higher than usual, and utility companies will charge you a big deposit before offering services.
Because your financial future is so intertwined with your credit scores, it is a good idea to request for a free copy of your credit score from various credit score agencies periodically. Doing so will keep you informed about your own standing on the average credit score scale. Having an idea about your credit score also will give you an opportunity to make amends if required, and keep away from committing more financial blunders that could come back and hurt you at a later time. Also, going over the credit report in detail will let you know if there are any discrepancies or errors in the report. If you find some, report it back to the agency, and add a note to your report. As it was observed, errors in credit reports are far more that what most people think. Being a bit more diligent on reading the credit score report could save you your job, a better loan/ insurance deal, or utility services at lesser deposits.
Above all, pay your bills in full, before the due date. That’ll solve most problems relating to your credit history. Personal Identity fraud is one of the most common crimes in american now. If you feel you've been a victim you can call one of the credit agencies and they will put a fraud alert in your file which will make it harder for people to get loans and credit cards. The agency will also forward the fraud alert to the other two major agencies.
